Description: This course will introduce students to fundamental concepts and strategies for creating video games. At their core, video games must be fun. But what is fun and how do you create it? This course will survey theories of game design, explore definitions of fun, game and play and focus on underlying mechanics that work in concert to make a video game fun to play.

Description: This course focuses on developing interactive media for web delivery. Fundamental web development concepts using minimal development tools are introduced in order to reinforce technique that may be applied beyond the scope of this introductory class. Additionally, tools which improve interactive media production efficiency are demonstrated. The overview approach to the concepts of interactive multimedia development provides students with the functional knowledge needed to support theory, techniques and resources in interdisciplinary environments.

The class discussion is grounded on form visualization principles practiced in the fields of design, drawing and sculpture. Description: Music 677 will cover the technical and aesthetic basics of sound design (musique concrete, sequencing, etc.), concentrating on sound design in a multimedia context. It will be a composition and project - oriented class. Previous experience with music is not necessarily a prerequisite, although general computer literacy is (this will be a Macintosh only class).

Description: We will explore digital video production from its analog roots to its contemporary state. The class will focus on understanding the parts of a camera, editing fundamentals, lighting and audio, and directing. The class will also deal with critical concerns with independent film and video production. On completion of this course a student will have:
• An understanding of the technical aspects of video production
• An understanding of the terminology used in film and video production
• A thorough understanding of video making methodologies
• A demonstrated ability to utilize several current software programs for editing
• An understanding of a critical process for analyzing their work and the work of others
• A minimum of two video projects for their reel
Prerequisite: Enrollment may be limited to department major
