Student: Jenny Macy, Department of Design
Project:
This project was a collaboration of The Ohio State Medical
Center, The Advanced Computing Center for the Arts and Design[ACCAD],
and The Department of Industrial, Interior, and Visual Communications
Design at The Ohio State University.
The
vision of this project was to add a pedagogical agent to an
online program for medical students learning about an inner
ear disorder known as Benign Paroxysmal Positional Vertigo
[BPPV]. Due to the many intricacies of the inner ear and its
poor x-ray and MRI image quality, it is a difficult part of
human anatomy to visualize. Traditional static images and
cross sections of the inner ear are often tedious or confusing
to the learner when explaining the maneuvers in treating symptoms
for BPPV.
Jenny
Macy produced 3D computer animations,
including models, lighting and texturing of parts of the inner
ear that correspond to text explanations of treatments for
BPPV. |
