Dancing DNA

Participants:
Dr. Susan Fisher, Department of Biology
Rachel Boggia, Department of Dance
Keith Kelly, Design
Vita Berezina-Blackburn, ACCAD.

Project funded by OSU TELR.

Completed 07/2004.

Watch the Final Movie: Quicktime 13 Mb

A video dance interpretation of chromosome movement is accompanied by an
animated computer visualization of the cell replication process. The
resulting video is designed to serve as a supplemental learning object for
Biology 101 students studying DNA processes. The simplistic or static
visual aid currently available to students for learning this complex topic
does not sufficiently convey the role of chromosome and DNA movement. In
engaging a variety of media for such visualization, Dr. Fisher is hoping to
create an experience that will work on informational and metaphoric level,
engage different learning styles and inspire student interest in biology.
