Project 1 : Physical Lighting of Objects
By applying various physical(theatre) lighting fixture choices to a still life composition, we
(Sonia Baidya, Russ Blain, Jeff Ostergaard) created a sequence of lighting moments. Emphasis
was placed on the properties of physical light and lighting design approaches.
seven properties of light: Intensity, Direction, Shape, Color, Quality, Movement and Orchestration.

Project 4: Digital Lighting of an Interior

project objective: Add color, textures and descriptive lighting to a still life within a space, based
on the genre scheme .

what is the genre? Musical
how does the lighting describe the genre?
Strong fog lights(beams) with tight angles, moving lights, saturated colors with
blue,red, and amber.

what lights are used?
mostly spotlights with directional, volume, and area lights. I tried to avoid usage of
ambient light because I want some contast between brightness and darkness.

how are the lights set? I intended reproduce theatrical lighting digitally.
what special effects are used to enhance the genre? I used lots of fog with glow as a special
effect. Also I used cloud 3d texture to make foggy background.

how is the camera (composition) used to communicate the genre? I setup the camera for
full shot,
because I wanted to introduce movement and beams of lights. Also, I
wanted to create more of theatrical audience setup.

Project 5: Lighting a World and Moment
Harvest moon:

around the pond I wander

and the night is gone.

In this project, we- Min Lee, Kyoung Lee, Amanda Hart, Anjeanette Stokes, Sonya Baida and
Fran Kalal as a Jitter operator) have create an installation that illustrated the mood, timing,
text and situation of the haiku. As reading this haiku, we had similar images in mind. Old
person fulfilled with life experience is going to walk at night. There is a pond reflecting the full
moon.. There is only him and nature. It's calm and quiet. He walks around the pond and closes
his eyes for thinking back what he has done for his life
