Pink Collar Place Project

[Autumn 2003]

PROJECT DESCRIPTION

In the Autumn Semester of 2003, while studying at the Cleveland Institute of Art, I partnered up with 2 other students to start a project that we came to call The Pink Collar Place Project. The project began with several animation created by Brandi Smart and Julia Detar. They had several animations and were seeking a way to present their animations within a computer interface. An idea for a physical interface was developed that could be used to trigger the animations in a gallery setting. I created detailed blueprints that were used to create a 1/12th scale model of a house. Rooms in the house were inspired by the animations that Brandi and Julia created. The final product of the colloration involved a blueprint style interface in which Julia and Brandi's animations could be discovered through exploration. The interface could be connected to the house circuitry through a serial port. Clicking on each room caused the blueprint view of the room to zoom in on the room and the corresponding light in the physical model of the house to turn on.
