Welcome to my character rigs gallery.
-All rigs were created using Maya 4.0/4.5. Some of the rigs were created for personal use; others were created for other student projects, a game that two others and I are working on in vrml, and a tutorial that I have produced for two workshops that I taught at ACCAD. Most of my rigs were created using an indirect binding method using a series of lats surrounding polygonal geometry. Most of the rigs below use a series of blend shapes for facial animation, although the frog uses a system of bones with the face to control facial movements. All rigs are setup to be animated using a system of sliders and spline handles, as well as some built in dynamics. All models were created by me unless otherwise stated.

this shows a screenie of me working some of the controls of the frog rig.

1.Dino Leg, Fake muscle rig. -Details can be found in my tutorial. Example movie.
-The model was produced for a production project by Ryan English and Mike Altman
2.The Frog. -Fake muscle structure in the face using bones/complete setup. Example movie.
3.Sweat Licker. -Created for personal animation, built in soft body dynamics/complete setup.
Example movie.Below is an example of lattice setup.

4.Dung Beetle Project. -The next four characters were created for a small animated short. Buff beetle has
simple muscle control using sculpt deformers. Example movie.

-The fly below has the ability to switch from ik to dynamics on the nose and legs.
 Example movie.
5.The Witch  -This witch was created for a theater students small animated short based on the story of McBeth. I used this rig to test out a ik/dynamic switch for the cloth simulation, it was somewhat successfull, needs a lot of work yet however.
Example movie. This movie also includes the next rig as well.

6.The Bearded Lady -This rig was produced for a design students animation. I used a switch setup for the dress which allowed it to be driven by handles, or the knees and feet, or by dynamics, or by a combination of them all. View the example movie above.
-Both of the models below where designed and modeled by Mike Altman
-She also needed a beard that was somewhat complex so I built it separately.
7.Umbilical -This character was designed and modeled by Jun Oh. It was produced for a group production project invovling five to six people. I was the main character TD. I had to make this character so that we could reference him over and over into a scene and easily attach its cord to the character in front of him. I also built in the ability to dynamicaly push down a soft body surface whenever he steped down below it.
Example movie.
8.Bike -This rig was created for a personal animation. A character had to be able to sit on the bike easily and it had to be animated only by the one pedal. This allowed me to sit the character on the bike and parent the feet to the pedals, and by only keyframing the right pedal, have a quick animation. I set this up using expressions and got the rubber bands to actually rotate using a wrap deformer.
Example movie.

9.Ginny -Created for a personal project
