Image 1: Relatively straight forward representation of the scene with

given lighting techniques. There are four lights here as well as atmospheric

shading elements. The overall emotional tone is that of a quiet contemplative

context with a somewhat meloncholy quality. The long shadows in particular

are intended to convey the drama of winter sunlight.

Image 2: This image was lit with the intention of conveying the kind of drama

one might see in a film such as 'Casablanca'. The fog is intended to add an

emotional edge that might not be felt in a more straightfoward lighting. The figure is

fairly dimly lit in a diffuse manner. There is one light in this scene.

Image 3: This scene is lit in a 'theatrical' way with two lights. The attempt here is to

further the idea of the cannon pad as stage, directly lighting it as such. A common

technique on the stage is to light a character directly from above with a somewhat

small spot. This strongly emhasizes that particular character while also visually

contrasting the figure with the open space of the stage. Both of these ideas are part of

my agenda.
