My proposal is to make an educational tool to teach children about ocular histoplasmosis. They will follow the story of a young girl who is going through the process of finding, naming, and getting treatment for a histo-spot on her retina. The participant will help her make decisions and learn why they shouldn't ignore a problem in their vision.

Through her experience, they will learn about the problem, the cause, and solution of a histo-spot. At the end of the story, they are given the chance to play a game that simulates the retinologist's experience in a surgery to stop the problem. They are given a laser though their mouse button and must seal the blood vessels at their base to stop their bleeding. While the targets are not moving, they are obscured by the histo-spot. The participant has a limited time to shoot the vessels before the game ends and they are scored. Their score is based on number of tries versus number of hits, and then weighted by how many targets the succeeded in sealing. They are then given feedback on their peformance and may try again.

By this, I hope to get kids involved and interested in the histoplasmosis problem facing the Ohio-Mississippi River Valley. Once they have played the game and heard the story, if they face the same problem, they will know not to ignore the warning signs and possible save their sight.
