Tony Mendoza's Ernie: A Photographer's Memoir

I thought it would be useful to have a homepage for this book, Ernie: A Photographer's Memoir, published by Chronicle Books in April 2001. Briefly, I moved to New York City in the early Eighties, trying to jumpstart my career as an artist-photographer. I had answered an ad from a painter willing to share her loft and the rent and Ernie was her cat. I had never lived with a cat before and Ernie amazed me. I photographed him every day for two years and made around 10,000 negatives. The pictures listed on the left are some of my favorite pictures from the book and I've included with each a description of how I took/made the picture or I've included the text that appears with the picture in the book. I've also included information about other books I've done. Enjoy.
