Simple Forms:

1. Modeling options

  • a single real life object
  • a scene (still life, environment, interior, etc) with 3-5 simpler real life objects placed or attached to a surface (floor, wall, etc)

2. All models must be triangulated. No model should exceed 1500 triangular faces.

3. Create a UV map(s) and image based texture(s) for 1 more complex or 2 simpler model(s) in your scene.

Proposal

Proposal should be a document (Word or HTML) that includes a basic sketch of the object/scene, form analysis of object (s) ( sketches that break up original objects into simpler forms, can be drawn on top of photographs or drawings in Photoshop), and references for textures. The final document and images should be placed in the folder: Workspace/Courses/2007-2008/AC751_Berezina_Winter_2007/HW1/Proposals

Complex Surfaces

1. Choose a real object or design an imaginary one. Consider combining different features of real objects (think gryphons, pegasus, swiss army knives, etc).No abstract forms for this assignment please.(Save it for the final).

2.Build a high-resolution model. Use polygon or sub-d modeling tools. Include a low-rez version when turning in this assignment.

3. Consider stylizing your model to show any of the following: emotional/expressive state, passage of time, time period or artistic style. Texturing is optional

4. Light the scene using three point lighting scheme. Use shadows and experiment with penumbra angles. See Composition Tips below.

5. Render the scene from 2-3 angles.

Model will be evaluated based on its
fidelity- model is well proportioned/ proportions match reference images
efficiency -although there is no limit on the number of polygons used in this assignment, the fewer polygons are used the better. Don't use Smooth with Subdivision Level higher than 2. Use a combination of Smooth (Subdivision Level 1 or 2, Continuity 1) and Soften Normals instead.
precision -unless details can be incorporated in a texture, be sure to give your model as many details as possible
continuity - no "nickeling" is allowed for this assignment, your model should look as smooth as possible

Proposal:

Front and side sketch of the object, reference images

Playtime- GROUP PROJECT

For this project create any of the following: an environment, a structure, a group of characters, data visualization model, etc. Feel free to experiment with photorealism, stylization or abstraction. Objects can be based on photos, drawings, or procedural concepts.

Present final work in poly, sub-d, NURBS or a combination format. Each team member should use at least three different NURBS modeling techniques in the assignment.

Texturing is optional for this project.

There will be at least 2 persons on a team, so your scene should have at least one component per team member.Your challenge is to make different objects work together in as many categories as possible: conceptual, technical, stylistic, quality, story, etc. Have fun!

Proposal:

Sketches, tutorials, links, references.

All materials must be turned in the appropriate HW folder at 10 am on the due date. Turning your homework later same day will lower the grade by half a letter grade. With each next day one letter grade is going to be deducted.

If you work from home you can use FTP application to turn in your homework. Access instructions are available on your ACCAD account application form and IntrACCAD.
