2010: Important Women in Computer Science, Art and Animation

2010's program ran from July 6th–16th with 9 young women from Columbus area middle and high schools. These young women were mentored during their two-week study by three women graduate students and the director of ACCAD

This year's program looked at important women in the fields of Computer Science, Art and Animation. We studied a range of both contemporary and historical figures including Grace Hopper, Lotte Reiniger, Mary Blair and many others. Camp participants worked in groups to research these important women and choose one that was meaningful to them. Each group was asked to investigate their famous woman's contribution, importance in history, and how it affects the lives of young women today. Using this information the camp participants created fictional animations based on the lives of the famous women they investigated.

To further our understanding of computer art and animation we visited the OSU Urban Arts Space to see the exhibits Charles A. Csuri: Beyond Boundaries, 1963's Present and Alan Price: Immersive Environments 2005–2010.
