In the form of a cinematic simulation experience, Afrotectopia invites you to immerse yourself into the world of Black Metal. Black Metal is a new protocol for space travel, while simultaneously being a tool for navigating the innerself. The Black Metal Starship Program is a catalyst for seeing the world anew.
The event will begin with a screening of the film, followed by a discussion.
Afrotectopia has grown from an NYC-based festival and conference to an international fellowship, catalyzing imagination across the Black and Pan-African diaspora. Black Metal is an intricately designed kitchen table art book produced by Afrotectopia that pushes the boundaries of space travel, science fiction, speculative design, Black culture, art, technology, and spirituality. Jordan Caldwell, Jeremy Kamal, Kordae Jatafa Henry, and Ari Melenciano, the four creators of Black Metal, will be present at OSU to share their research and use their time as a mini-residency at ACCAD to work on next steps in the project.
