Jean-Yves Munch, sound designer and Sr. Lecturer at ACCAD collaborated on an immersive soundscape for the current Wexner Center photo exhibition entitled Ming Smith: “Wind Chime” .
The exhibit runs from September 22, 2024 through January 5, 2025.  Free for all audiences.

The exhibition includes nearly 30 photographs from Ming  Smith’s Africa series, taken during her travels to Senegal, Ethiopia, Ivory Coast, and Egypt over the span of three decades. The exhibition’s soundscape was created by Smith’s son, Mingus Murray.

Jean-Yves Munch contributed to the immersive audio installation by blending soundscapes with the museum’s visual environment. Jean-Yves explained, “Working with Mingus Murray’s ambient soundscapes, I focused on creating a dynamic, immersive experience that responded to the physical space, drawing visitors deeper into Ming Smiths photographs. I hope that this installation allowed for an interaction between sound and sight, enhancing the emotional impact of the exhibit and hopefully transforming the visitor experience.”

Ming Smith is a Columbus raised artist and photographer. Her work is also on display at the Columbus Museum of Art and The Gund at Kenyon College.
